Main Street Odessa
is a non-profit organization dedicated to the revitalization of downtown
Odessa. It is part of the Texas Main Street Program of the Texas Historical
Commission. One of the few
urban cities selected to participate in the program, Odessa has been a Main
Street city since January 1991.
Main Street Odessa uses a four-point approach:
Organization, Promotion, Design and
Economic Restructuring. The program’s main goal is to maintain the
historical significance of the
buildings while simultaneously encouraging new business development and th
e
relocation of existing businesses to downtown.
Promotional events encourage the community to visit downtown and see the
changes. Some of the promotional events include: Firecracker Fandango, Hot
Summer Nights and Heritage Holiday Christmas Parade.
The design approach involves maintenance and rehabilitation of exterior
facade, as well as street, sidewalk, signage and landscaping improvements.
Economic restructuring includes joint advertising program, sign grants and
forgivable loans for external building repairs through the Main Street Odessa Façade Grant Program.
